Taxonomy Identification: Family Hemiptera, First named by Linnaeus in 1758
Colour: Forewings dark brown/black, hindwings transparent with dark veins. Thorax brown, abdomen red.
Size: Body length including tails 90-100+mm. Wingspan 50-60mm
Comments & Applications: One of the rarer species of water scorpion with amazing red bodies. The curious long twin tails operate as a breathing tube when submerged. Always a favourite with collectors, the art and craft industry, photography, framing, interior design, film, entertainment and educational purposes
