Description

Taxonomy Identification: Family Papilionidae, first named by Oberthur in 1888

Colour: the topside (recto) forewings are of the female are black with white patterns, hind-wings are black with broad yellowish-white border with a row of black spots. The male colouration is iridescent green and black on the forewings with golden yellow hind-wings and hint of green.

Size: Wingspan up to 140-280mm (female larger)

Comments & Applications: This stunning bird-wing is the second largest species of butterfly in the world. The species conservation status is listed as “of least concern”.  Our specimens are captive bred on specialist breeding farms, or from antique collections. Across the butterflies range there are several sub-species. We do not sell wild caught birdwing’s.

A butterfly for the serious connoisseur, also useful in high end applications where the customer is looking for something different from the norm.
