Taxonomy Identification: Family Nymphalidae. First named by Linnaeus in 1758
Colour: The topside (recto) is black with thick white bar which runs across forward and lower wings. Outer margin has fine white spots. Hints of pale-blue surrounding the white bars can be seen on some specimens The underside (verso) is similar paler.
Size: Wingspan 40mm
Comments & Applications: A butterfly found throughout Indonesia, Queensland and Papua New Guinea. Commonly known as the Cape York aeroplane or black-eyed plane butterfly. Not often offered for sale, hence a collectable species.
Dried butterflies make the perfect subject for school science projects. Also for framing, domes, photography, interior design and film applications.
Format: Papered, unmounted requires relaxing rehydration and setting
