Taxonomy Identification: Family Papilionidae, First named by Linnaeus in 1758
Colour: Overall colour black with multiple yellow bars and spots and single red/blue spot on hindwings. Underside (verso) similar but with extra red and blue markings.
Size: Wingspan 70-85mm
Comments & Applications: A beautiful species, commonly called the lemon or lime swallowtail due to the larval host plant and also the chequered swallowtail due to its patterns. Always popular among collectors, in education, craft and design: butterfly framing, domes, artwork, photography, media and film applications.
