Taxonomy Identification: Family Lycaenidae. First named by Linnaeus, in 1761
Colour: The topside (recto) wings of the male butterfly are iridescent blue, while the female topside is brown with orange submarginal spots. The underside (verso) of the wings is greyish with black spots showing a thin black line and small dots along outer margin. Along these margins are also present a rather large orange band with blue spots.
Size: Wingspan 18-28 mm
Comments & Applications: This butterfly is widespread across Europe to Siberia, and North America. Absent in Britain. This is a rarely offered species, one for the collector.
