Taxonomy Identification: Family Lycaenidae, First named by Knoch in 1781
Colour: Topside (recto) of male dark violet-blue edged in thin black and white margin. Female blue with broad black tips.Underside (verso) of both sexes similar, coloured a dirty dust-grey, the ocelli very large, often distorted; lower margin bears orange spots, from which they are separated by two large round dots with metallic centres.
Size: Wingspan 23-27mm
Comments & Applications: The Cranberry Blue is widespread in Europe, absent from the United Kingdom. A collectable reference species, useful for school and educational purposes, art frames and craft.
