Taxonomy Identification: Family Nymphalidae, first named by Linnaeus in 1767
Colour: Topside (recto) is predominantly orange brown with black spots and brown outer border. The underside (verso) is a mixture of dark brown and light bars with white comma marking.
Size: Wingspan 45-52mm
Comments & Applications: The Comma is now a familiar sight throughout most of England and Wales taking its common name from the white comma marking on the verso hind-wing. Widespread throughout Europe, North Africa, and Asia.
