Taxonomy Identification: Family Lycaenidae. First named by Rottemburg 1773
Colour: The males having pale silvery-blue topside (recto) of the wings with a submarginal line of grey spots on the hind-wings and a thin brown and white chequered fringe. Females have dark brown topside of wings, with marginal orange spots and also with chequered fringes. The underside (verso) of the wings show a light ochre colouration, several dark spots surrounded by white, a submarginal line of black marks, a series of marginal orange spots on the hind-wings and a blue dusting near the body.
Size: Wingspan 30-38mm
Comments & Applications: Stunning blue butterfly with highly variable wing patterns. Commonly known as the Chalk Hill Blue due to its location to calcareous grassland in southern England. Fresh collectors specimens, also perfect for art projects and educational reference. Captive bred or antique.
