Taxonomy Identification: Family Nymphalidae, first named by Cramer in 1775
Colour: (Topside) Base colour of the forewings are blackish brown with black streaks and white patches. The underside of the wings are similar but much paler brown with additional black spots.
Size: Wingspan 60-70mm
Comments & Applications: This attractive butterfly is found across subsaharan Africa. This is the sub-species “protracta”. Commonly called the false diadem or false chief butterfly . Not often offered for sale, makes a nice butterfly for framing, domes, artwork, photography, interior design and film.
