Taxonomy Identification: Family Lycaenidae. First named by Snellen in 1878
Colour: The male on its topside (recto) is purple blue edged in black. The female is coloured a fuscous brown with white centre bar. The underside (verso) of box sexes is similar, white with brown margin edged in black and silver spots.
Size: Wingspan 20-25mm
Comments & Applications: A small delicate species, quite rare and collectable. Dried butterflies make the perfect subject for school science projects. Also for framing, domes, photography, interior design and film applications.
NOTE: Small Lycaenidae are notoriously difficult to taxidermy – not recommended for beginners.
Format: Unmounted, papered, wings folded, requires relaxing and setting
