Taxonomy Identification: Family Curculionidae, tribe Dryophthorinae. First named by Drury in 1773
Colour: Black with reddish-brown elytra. Prothorax pitted. Elytra deeply ridged.
Size: Length from tip of snout to end of abdomen 30-40mm – excludes legs and antenna
Comments & Applications: This species is known as the “bearded snout weevil” beetle because of its bizarre hairy snout. This is a large impressive weevil species. Popular among the art and design industry. Used in framing, domes, artwork, photography, film and jewellery applications
