Taxonomy Identification: Family Mantidae, First named by De Haan in 1842
Colour: The body of this Mantid is brown, the legs are green. The wings on the male are transparent with a thick green lateral stripe on the borders of the front wings. The front wings also bear a cream spot. The hind-wings are transparent with a thin green lateral stripe to the top border.
Size: Length measuring from the tip of the head to the end of the abdomen but excluding the legs and antenna: Male 65-75mm, Female 70+mm. Wingspan 125-140mm.
Comments & Applications: This is a huge tropical mantid commonly known as the Malaysian Shield Mantid. So called for its shield like appendage to the thorax. Always popular among collectors and the ideal subject for artwork, photography, framing, interior design, film, entertainment or educational purposes
