Taxonomy Identification: Family Sphingidae. First named by Macleay 1826.
Colour: The topside (recto) forewings are ochreous brown brown with faint lines, darker in the female. Hindwings are black with paler bar. Underside wings (verso) are similar in colour but with tiny black flecks and black patch, females undersides may have a reddish tinge.
Size: Wingspan 70-80mm
Comments & Applications: This is a medium sized hawk moth distributed across Asia, extremely good value. Commonly called the pale brown hawk-Moth. Always popular among collectors, perfect for display frames, domes, insect design art and craft applications.
