Taxonomy Identification: Family Sphingidae. First named by Drury in 1773.
Colour: The topside (recto) wings are brown with lighter central bar and jade green highlights. Underside wings (verso) have a reddish orange with lighter zig-zag markings.
Size: Wingspan Male 70-80 – Female 80-95mm
Comments & Applications: This is a large attractive hawk moth distributed across Asia, extremely good value. Commonly called the Yam Hawk Moth. Always popular among collectors, perfect for display frames, domes, insect design art and craft applications.
NOTE: This moth is highly variable and colours can vary, some examples being very brown.
