Description

Taxonomy Identification: Family Arachnidae, recently renamed under the family Trichonephila. First named by Walckenaer in 1842.

Colour: Red legs. Carapace black with powdering of white. Abdomen dark greenish with white border. In living specimens the abdomen is a highly variable in colour.

Size: Overall length of papered spiders, measuring from tip of front leg to the tip of the hind leg: 85-125mm. Specimens are supplied on a card base.

Comments & Applications:  Giant orb spiders are fantastic creatures with super long spindly legs making them particularly “creepy”! This is a particularly beautiful species contrasting the reddish brown legs with darker abdomen. Impressive beasties making them the perfect subject for the arts and design industry, photography, film, entertainment and educational purposes.

NOTE: The abdomens of this spider have been dried, causing some shrivelling and compression. Repairs can be made by painting the abdomen with insect glue.
