Taxonomy Identification: Family Lycaenidae. First identified by Grose-Smith in 1894
Colour: Topside (recto) wings are purple-blue with black margins. The underside (verso) wings are pale silvery white with darker lines and spots. Hind-wings colouration and intensity extremely variable between specimens.
Size: Wingspan 20-27mm
Comments & Applications: A small delicate grass blue species, seldom offered for sale, one for the serious collector. Dried butterflies make the perfect subject for school science projects. Also framing, domes photography, interior design and film applications.
Note: Small Lycaenidae butterflies are notoriously difficult to set due to their delicate nature, not recommended for beginners.
