Taxonomy Identification: Family Papilionidae, First named by Linnaeus, in 1758.
Colour: Topside (recto) back, with a chain of yellowish or greenish spots at the edges. In the middle of the forewings there is a large yellowish or greenish area. The (verso) undersides of the wings are similar to the topside, but the basic colour is brownish and the spots are paler or whitish. The hind-wings have a few red spots.
Size: Wingspan 70-80mm
Comments & Applications: A beautiful black and green butterfly. Common name: Great Jay. Coloration is highly variable and the species is split into numerous sub-species.
