Taxonomy Identification: Family Buprestidae, First named by Klug in 1865
Colour: Overall colour dark blue-black with additional cream marking on underside of abdomen
Size: Length from end of jaw/horn to end of the abdomen but excluding legs 30-40mm
Comments & Applications: A curious teardrop shaped beetle with a glossy black appearance. This particular sub-species lacks any marking and is commonly called the Lucifer beetle. The ideal subject for artwork, photography, insect jewellery, framing, interior design, film, entertainment or educational purposes
