Taxonomy Identification: Family Papilionidae. First named by Denis & Schiffermüller in 1775
Colour: Topside wings are pale yellow with thick black bars and ziz-zag patterns on the wing margin. The hind-wing is also yellow and black but includes red and sometimes blue spots along the outer wing margin. These spots can be almost absent in darker forms. The underside (verso) is similar but with red bar’s on the forewing.
Size: Wingspan 44-54 mm
Comments & Applications: A widespread but local species distributed across Europe and east including the Balkans, Kazakhstan and the Urals. A beautiful butterfly prized by collectors. We are pleased to offer captive bred examples.
