Taxonomy Identification: Family Noctuidae. First named by Fenn in 1864.
Colour: Forewings dull grey brown densely black-dusted with black dorsal streaks. Hindwings dusky white with darker blackish margin.
Size: Wingspan 32-40 mm
Comments & Applications: Not to be confused with the similarly named ‘Fen Wainscot’ Arenostola phragmitidis. This rare moth was first described by Charles Fenn who collected specimens during an entomological excursion to Ranworth village, Norfolk in 1864.
A very scarce species, locally confined to East Anglia, inhabiting reed beds and fenland. We are pleased to offer a selection of antique specimens. Seldom offered for sale, a connoisseur species.
