At the centre of the thorax is a curious marking reminiscent of a skull.

Comments & Applications: Perhaps the most popular of all the hawk-moth species. Made famous through the film “silence of the lambs” where it features on the book and film cover as well featuring in film scenes. The incredible skull shape on the thorax give this moth its common name: The Deaths Head Hawk-moth. This is the UK’s largest migrant moth species and a truly impressive insect.

Very popular among framers and the art and design industry. Also highly collectable among entomologists.
