Taxonomy Identification: Family Saturniidae. First named by Linnaeus in 1758
Colour: Sexually dimorphic. Males a golden orange-brown with a single blue/black eye on each wing, females pale brown and larger. A melanic form also occurs.
Size: Wingspan 60-85 mm
Comments & Applications: A beautiful silk-moth species native to Europe. Males fly during the day. Not often offered for sale.
Perfect if you are starting your own European Moth reference collection. Also useful in education, film, media, artistry and interior design, craft frames and domes.
