Description
Taxonomy Identification: Family Geometridae, first named by Linnaeus in 1758
Colour: Extremely variable colouration from mottled black and white to all black (melanic) forms
Size: Wingspan 35-60 mm
Comments & Applications: A remarkably variable species, which has found fame among geneticists. This species shows extreme adaptation phenomena. Individuals from industrial areas show melanism, with all-dark individuals whereas outside of polluted areas the standard form dominates. Nowadays, the melanic form f. carbonaria is declining in sync with environmental clean-ups. Found throughout Britain in a wide range of habitats. Ideal entry level species for Entomological reference collections, education, film, media, artistry and interior design
Format: Supplied SET, wings spread, mounted on a pin, cabinet ready with locational data
