Taxonomy Identification: Family Hymenoptera, First named by Linnaeus in 1758
Colour: Black with two yellowish-orange bars. Abdomen black with buff-white tail.
Size: Body length Queen is between 20 and 22 mm long, males range from 14 to 16 mm, and workers from 11 to 17 mm.18-28mm.
Comments & Applications: Large and impressive native bumblebee; commonly called the buff-tail bumblebee. Always a favourite with collectors, the art and craft industry, photography, framing, interior design, film, entertainment and educational purposes
