Taxonomy Identification: Family Catocala. First named by Vieweg in 1790
Colour: Forewing grey with intricate black brown patterns. Hind-wings a vivid rosy pink and black.
Size: Wingspan 60-75 mm
Comments & Applications: Native to central and southern Europe, a very rare visitor to the British Isles, with only a handful of records. The most recent was on the Isle of Wight, in 2009. Spectacular rosy-pink hind-wings make this a popular choice among collectors and artists. Also useful in education, film, media, interior design
