Taxonomy Identification: Family Hymenoptera, sub-family Ichneumonidae first named by Fabricius in 1798.
Colour: Overall colour orange. Wings are semi-transparent with black veins. Distinctive cream stripes on thorax.
Size: Body length 15-20mm, Wingspan 20-30mm
Comments & Applications: A nocturnal parasitic wasp of noctuid moth larvae, often coming to light. Rarely offered for sale.
This weird wasp is a nice addition to any entomological reference collection, especially British insect collections. Also useful for educational purposes, fine art, and macro photography.
