Description
Taxonomy Identification: Arachnidae, First named by Simon in 1877
Colour: Overall colour brownish orange.
Size: Length from end of abdomen to the tip of jaws variable from 30-35mm – leg span 35-40mm
Comments & Applications: Solifugae from the latin meaning to ‘flee the sun’ – Commonly called sun spiders, camel spiders, and wind scorpions. The most unique feature of this arachnid is its chelicerae or pair of appendages in front of the mouth. Each of the two chelicerae form powerful pincer-like jaws, much like that of a crab, but have rows of teeth for cutting and ripping prey. The head area is much larger than the abdomen giving a top heavy appearance.
This is small but amazing arachnid, with its fascinating features this really is a show stopper. Very rarely offered for sale, only offered in small numbers. Perfect for the connoisseur collector or high end bespoke applications, or closeup photography.
Format: Unmounted, papered, requires relaxing and setting.
