Description

Taxonomy Identification: Family Sphingidae. First named by Linnaeus in 1758

Colour: The wings of this moth are clear, with brown veins and brown outer border. The thorax and abdomen is olive green with a broad reddish-brown bar.

Size: Wingspan 35-48mm

Comments & Applications: This small hawk-moth is a day-flying species inhabiting open clearings in woods where the larval food plant honeysuckle grows. As its common name suggests the moth resembles a “bee” yet fly’s like a “hummingbird” with incredible agility. Highly prized among lepidopterists, we are pleased to offer a limited number of captive bred examples. This moth is popular among the art and crafts, for use in wall hangings, photography, domes etc.
