Taxonomy Identification: Family Sphingidae. First named by Geyer in 1828
Colour: The forewings are dark olive green/brown with a cream bar and grey outer margin. The hindwings are pink, with black and white edges. Abdomen is dark olive green with black patch and cream stripes.
Size: Wingspan 60-75 mm
Comments & Applications: This is an rare collectable hawkmoth closely related to Hyles euphorbiae existing in many isolated populations which have developed into distinct subspecies. It is found on Corsica, Sardinia and the Balearic Islands and commonly known as the Smoky Spurge Hawkmoth. A moth for the artisan collector or high end framing art/design sector.
