Taxonomy Identification: Family Noctuidae. First named by Linnaeus in 1761.
Colour: Forewings drab grey with pale veins and white and black streaks. Hindwings greyish-white.
Size: Wingspan 29-37 mm
Comments & Applications: A widespread British species, with distinctive black ‘shoulder’ stripe from which the moth derives its common name. Useful in education, film, media, artistry and interior design, frames and domes.
