Taxonomy Identification: Family Noctuidae. First named by Hübner in 1808.
Colour: Forewings pale yellowish ochreous, typically strongly flushed with rufous; veins finely rufous; lines fine, more or less angulated. Hindwings ochreous white, greyer in female. Some colour forms darker.
Size: Wingspan 36-43 mm
Comments & Applications: A frequent migrant species, numbers fluctuating from year to year. Normally restricted to Southern Britain but has been reported further north. Seldom offered for sale, a connoisseur species.
