Taxonomy Identification: Family Erebidae » Lymantriinae. First named by Linnaeus in 1758
Colour: Sexually dimorphic moth. Females completely wingless. Males have wings and are a reddish brown with a white spot on the forewings.
Size: Wingspan 25-30 mm
Comments & Applications: A widespread and common species. Sexually dimorphic, the females have no wings whatsoever! They simply sit where they hatch and await the handsome male Vapourer to fly in and pair!
