Taxonomy Identification: Family Noctuidae. First named by Fabricius in 1775
Colour: Highly variable colouration with many forms some examples with a plain ground colour, others much darker, but all have large, rounded stigmata outlined paler. Hind-wings dark brown with pale yellowish edge.
Size: Wingspan 30-40 mm
Comments & Applications: Widespread and common over much of the UK. Perfect if you are starting your own British Moth reference collection. Also useful in education, film, media, artistry and interior design, frames and domes.
