Description

Taxonomy Identification: Family Geometridae. First named by Denis & Schiffermüller in 1775

Colour: Forewings lined with pale to dark brown/black bars. Hindwings pale with darker border.

Size: Wingspan 24-30 mm

Comments & Applications:  Sadly this moth has suffered huge decline in the United Kingdom following the elimination of Barberry bushes, upon which the larva exclusively feed. Farmers removed Barberry Bushes as the plant was a host for rust fungus that also infected wheat. Rust-resistant wheat varieties have now greatly reduced this problem. General hedgerow removal and the impacts of mechanised trimming have resulted in further losses. This moth is now protected under UK Law and it is illegal to collect or disturb this species in the wild. Protection applies to wild, rather than captive-bred, individuals.

We are pleased to off a small number of captive bred specimens from Austria, bred in the late 1970’s. A very special addition for your Entomological reference collection.

Format: Supplied SET, wings spread, mounted on a pin, cabinet ready with locational data
