Description
Description
Taxonomy Identification: Family Notodontidae, first named by Linnaeus in 1758
Colour: The topside (recto) of the forewings are grey with a large prominent buff patch at the apex of each wing. The recto hind-wings are creamy white.
Size: Wingspan 55-68mm
Comments & Applications: A much loved “boyhood” favourate among British moth collectors! When at rest the moth resembles a broken twig, its common name is derived from the buff-yip on each forewing. Widely distributed throughout Britain, common in Europe.
Format: Papered/unmounted – requires relaxing and setting
NOTE: Relaxing and setting small moths is not recommended for the beginner! If you are a novice where possible choose SET/mounted specimens.
