Taxonomy Identification: Family Hymenoptera, first named by Linnaeus in 1758
Colour: Overall black wasp with pale yellowish-brown bar on abdomen. On dried specimens the bar tends to fade from yellow to pale brown.
Size: Body length 25-34mm, Wingspan 40-48mm
Comments & Applications: A large tropical wasp commonly called the Greater banded hornet wasp. Seldom offered for sale. A nice addition to any entomological reference collection. Also useful for educational purposes, fine art, and macro photography.
