Taxonomy Identification: Family Hymenoptera, first named by Linnaeus in 1758
Colour: Overall blackish wasp with yellowish-brown tip to the abdomen. On dried specimens the yellow tends to fade to pale brown.
Size: Body length 34mm, Wingspan 48mm
Comments & Applications: A large tropical wasp commonly called the Yellow Vented Hornet because of the yellow tipped colour on the abdomen/tail. Seldom offered for sale. A nice addition to any entomological reference collection. Also useful for educational purposes, fine art, and macro photography.
