Taxonomy Identification: Family Noctuidae. First named by Hufnagel in 1766.
Colour: Forewings pale orange-yellow with variable reddish-grey markings. Hind-wings white. Aberrant form flavescens lacks markings with almost completely yellow forewings.
Size: Wingspan 27-35 mm
Comments & Applications: A widespread British species occupying damp woodland, heathland and marshy places.
