Taxonomy Identification: Family Noctuidae. First named by Esper in 1788.
Colour: Forewings deep yellow, with purplish brown bar and reddish brown markings. Hind-wings white. Similar to the Sallow moth (X. icteritia) distinguishable by the purplish-red collar in the head.
Size: Wingspan 27-33 mm
Comments & Applications: A pretty yellow moth. Widespread throughout British occupying damp woodland and marshy habitats.
