Taxonomy Identification: Family Hymenoptera, sub-family Ichneumonidae first named by Rasnitsyn, 1981
Colour: Overall colour black. Legs have yellow bands. The female has entirely yellow first and second segments on the abdomen with a yellow spot at the tip. Wings are semi-transparent with black veins.
Size: Body length 13-18mm, Wingspan 10-20mm
Comments & Applications: A widespread parasitic wasp of moth pupae. Frequents hedge and rodsides. Rarely offered for sale.
This weird wasp is a nice addition to any entomological reference collection, especially British insect collections. Also useful for educational purposes, fine art, and macro photography.
