Taxonomy Identification: Family Erebidae > Arctiidae. First named by Linnaeus in 1758
Colour: A sexually dimorphic species, females yellow with pale hind-wings. Only the females have the four spots which give this species its common English name. Male forewings are buff grey with darker edge. There is a yellow collar at base of forewings and black line on top edge. Hind-wings pale yellow.
Size: Wingspan 35-55 mm
Comments & Applications: A local species along the south-west coast of England and Wales.
