Taxonomy Identification: Family Erebidae, Arctiinae. First named by Linnaeus in 1758
Colour: Forewing dark reddish brown. Hind wings carmine ruby red with black spots. Sub-species borealis is darker the red on the hind-wings reduced or absent.
Size: Wingspan 30-45 mm
