Taxonomy Identification: Family Erebidae » Arctiinae. First named by Linnaeus in 1758

Colour: Overall white moth with small freckling of black spots. Abdomen yellow with black central spots. Considerable variation in freckling.

Size: Wingspan 34-48 mm

Comments & Applications:  A well known and attractive moth. Widely distributed and fairly common over much of Britain. We have several colour forms: white/cream, buff-yellow, dark-buff and plain white where forewing spots are almost absent.
